Over 100 hotel workers to be laid off

Bridgetown.

Over 100 hundred workers at the state run Gems of Barbados hotel brand will be laid of later this year.

Hoteliers Bernard Weatherhead and Ludo Marcelo, have forged an agreement with the parent company Hotels and Resorts Limited(HRS; to lease the Savannah Hotel and Time Out properties, leaving the Blue Horizon as the only hotel in the Gems group.

According  to HRL chairman David Bowen,Weatherhead and Marcelo's company,

MW Sun Hotels Inc will assume control of the two hotels in the next three to five months.

Bowen said, the excitment over the deal  with MW Sun was  tempered by the fact approximately over 100 workers with the company will be  laid off.
