Opposition leader opens Bartica Regatta

Bartica : Today Leader of the Opposition, Hon. David Granger declared open the Bartica Regatta in the Cuyuni/Mazaruni, Region No. 7. He wished the thousands of residents and visitors a Happy Easter and took the opportunity to remind them that both the Regatta at Bartica and the Rodeo at Lethem, Region No. 9, were established by Wilton Angoy, who served as District Commissioner in the Rupununi and Mazaruni Districts respectively.
Brigadier Granger called once again for Bartica to be made a Town since it have its own aerodrome, bank, hotels, hospital, market, religious institutions, police station, schools, etc and is the administrative centre of a region that is larger than the Netherlands. He also called for greater involvement of the Indigenous people of the Upper Mazaruni in the Regatta, and congratulated Regional Chairman, Mr. Gordon Bradford and the Bartica Regatta Committee for maintaining this important festival.
Brigadier Granger was accompanied by APNU Member of Parliament, Dr. George Norton, who also congratulated the Regional Chairman on a job well done.

Brigadier Granger who spent his childhood at Bartica, started the day by attending Mass at the St. John the Baptist Anglican Church with his wife, Mrs. Sandra Granger.
