Opposition happy with dismissal of PSC Chairman

Port-of-Spain: Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley says he was always confident that President George Maxwell Richards would have acted in accordance with the constitution in the issue involving Police Service Commission Chairman Nizam Mohammed, who was dismissed this morning for racial comments regarding the top brass of the police service.

Dr Rowley says it was clear that the circumstances warranted the interventon of the president in the protection of the public interest.

Dr Rowley says he is also of the view that the issue should continue to atract the intervention of the Parliament and as such he has filed a motion in Parliament which he believes will provide the opportunity for parliamentarians to fully debate and bring proper closure to what he says has been an emotive matter.

Dr Rowley believes that the parliamentary debate is of sufficient national importance that the Opposition is requesting that government designates April 20th as Private Members Day to debate the issue.
