Opposition either don’t understand Budget or being malicious- President

President Donald RamotarGeorgetown: The opposition’s claim that Budget 2014 lacks ‘a human face’ has been dismissed by President Donald Ramotar.

He believes that it either the Opposition didn’t read and understand the budget or is being deliberately malicious.

The Opposition has said that the budget does not cater for the less fortunate and disadvantaged, despite there being several new measures introduced by the government for 2014, particularly targeting those same groups.

President Ramotar made reference to the $10,000 being given to students in addition to books and uniforms.

The Specialty Hospital was described as another example by the president.

The facility forms part of government’s efforts to provide affordable health care to every citizen, locally but the opposition cut funding for this project from the budget.

The President spoke of the old age pension that was at $300 when his government took office.

The Guyanese leader pointed out that pensioners now receive a subsidy of $30,000 for water and electricity, adding that pension is now $13, 125.
