One killed, two wounded in shoot out with police

Port of Spain; An exchange in gunfire between police and alleged suspects in a car resulted in one man being shot and two wounded. The dead man who police say was well known to them was identified as Michael Hendy, 23, of Factory Road, Bypass Road, Arima. 

Police officers from the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) were on an an anti crime exercise in the Sea Lots area with members of the Defense Force when they got word via a bulletin, advising them to be on the lookout for a are Nissan Almera, which the officers spotted in the vicinity of the Beetham Highway.

The officers pursued to intercept the vehicle in which the three suspects were traveling, upon realizing they were being chased the men attempted to turnoff unto Broadway at the Port-of-Spain light house where the driver lost control and crashed into the gate of the Port of Spain Museum.

This is when the driver of the Almera began shooting after the police who returned fire hitting Hendy who was pronounced dead at the scene. Hendy was wanted by police in connection with a number of firearm related offenses. The two other occupants of the vehicle aged 23 and 26, are said to be from Chinapoo Village and Tapana Street, Morvant, were taken into custody and and remain under interrogation as investigations continue.
