Bridgetown, Barbados – An attack on a member of staff the Welfare Department at the Speightstown branch, St.Peter has caused the office to close.
While not disclosing the nature of the attack, several officials in the Ministry of Social Care have confirmed that the worker was violently attacked by a member of the public.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Social Care Sonja Welch admitted that her ministry was aware of the incident and expected a report from the chief welfare officer today.
Welch stated that once the report is reviewed, the ministry would make a decision on what further action would be taken, including when the office would be reopen.
