“PNC/R had 28 years to empower people, they did not”-Minister Ali responding to opposition questions about his competency

Georgetown – Amidst questions about his competency to execute the mandate of Minister of Housing and Water, from PNC/R Member of Parliament Aubrey Norton, Minister Irfaan Ali blasted the opposition, highlighting their failure to develop a housing and water policy that would seek to empower the citizens of Guyana.

According to Minister Ali, the PNC did not distribute “one single house lot in 28 years in government,” citing the absence of even a Housing Ministry during those years. With references to the surpluses in the budget the Minister noted that it is spent on areas in the social sectors such as health, education and human services, pointing out that Guyana is the “only nation in the world that distributes at least 17 houselots daily, including holidays and weekends.”

In response to a claim by PNC/R MP Mervyn Williams that Tuschen Primary School was opened without electricity or water to the building, Minister Ali produced two letters from Region Three Regional Executive Officer and the Head teacher of Tuschen Primary School refuting such claims.
