Official declaration delayed as PPP/C request recount

Election in Guyana: ballot box with voting paper on white backgroundGeorgetown: Election results may be further delayed as People's Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) has requested a recounts in Regions One, Two, Three and Eight, according to officials.

Chairman of the Joint Services Brigadier Mark Phillips has urged Guyanese to be patient and await that declaration as well as accept the final results. These calls have also been made by the international community.

According to Chief Elections Officer of the Guyana Elections Commission Keith Lowenfield, the PPP wants a number of boxes recounted and this is expected to begin Wednesday and continue until Friday.

The coalition of A Partnership for National Unity+ Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC)  and PPP/C have claimed victory based on their Statements of Poll.
