No Arrests Made in Robbery of Second U.S. Citizen in Nevis

St Kitts and Nevis: The investigation into the armed robbery of a U.S. citizen on Nevis remains active yet unsolved police inform.

On February 9, while at the Morning Star villa, Matthew Dodd was robbed by three men wielding machetes sometime that night. Reports are that the elderly man, who has been a regular vacationer in Nevis for some 18 years, was robbed of 2 cellphones, some cash, and his wallet containing I.D and other cards. Dodd was not injured during the incident.

The Observer spoke with a member of the Nevis Criminal Investigation Department on Wednesday who informed that no arrests had been made in that case. The officer did indicate that one of the cellphones had been recovered.

This incident occurred on the same night that U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer, his wife and two friends were themselves robbed by a man brandishing a machete. The robber fled the scene with just over $1000 US cash and no one was physically hurt during the incident.

The Judge’s case made international news and has been a regular web-based and broadcast news item since. The case picked up momentum in recent days after it was announced that a suspect had been charged with the robbery.

Friends of Dodd have written emails to this publication inquiring about the investigation into the elderly man’s robbery, expressing concern that the Judge’s media-hyped case was perhaps eclipsing their friend’s ordeal.

“We are eager to hear if this crime has also been solved. Our friend has also been a visitor to Nevis for more than 18 years. We would like to hear how the police is handling this case as well. The amount of crime on Nevis is a great concern,” one individual wrote.

The CID officer said the case remains open and is being investigated to the fullest extent.
