Nine contracts valued $191M awarded for Community Infrastructure

CRIP-1Georgetown: Over $191M road works in progress under the Community Infrastructure Improvement Project.  The Ministry of Communities recently awarded 9 contracts valuing over $191M to rehabilitate and reconstruct several deplorable roads in Regions Three, Four, Five, Six and 10 to the benefit of thousands of Guyanese. The works are being executed through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Project (CIIP).

The contracts were awarded to S. Jagmohan Hardware Supplies and Construction, XL Engineering, Compustruct Engineering Inc., H. Nauth & Sons, N. Lachman Business Establishment & Civil Works, Mohamed Ramzanalli Khan, and Krishna Jagdeo General Contractor.

Some areas that are benefiting from the upgrade works include: Buxton; Linden; Tuschen North Housing Scheme; Cummings Lodge; New Amsterdam; Melanie/Non Pareil, and Sisters Village, West Bank Demerara.

The Ministry believes that the roads upgrade would contribute to the socio-economic development of these communities. They would reduce travel time; provide better access to educational and health facilities, place of work, markets, businesses; and facilitate the easy transport of goods and services.

At a recent contract signing ceremony, the Project Coordinator of CIIP, Karen Roopchand informed the contractors that the Ministry expects all works to be completed within the stipulated time frame and there will be no extension of time. She stressed that if the works go beyond the contractual agreement liquidated damages will be applied.
