Georgetown: The Hughes family is in mourning after the tragic death of matriarch Christobel Hughes following a traffic accident on Saturday night.
Christobelle Hughes, the mother of prominent Attorney-at-Law and Chairman of the Alliance For Change (AFC), Nigel Hughes succumbed on Sunday to injuries received in the accident.
Hughes, who was in her early 80s, was a passenger in a vehicle being driven by her other son, Stuart Hughes, when the tragedy occurred.
On Saturday evening, the pair was travelling on Middleton Street, Campbellville, Georgetown heading back to their Subryanville home when another vehicle slammed into theirs, resulting in severe damage to both vehicles. Hughes was rushed to a city hospital, where she was in critical condition, while her son Stuart sustained minor injuries.
