New passports with enhanced security features to be phased in – Home Affairs Minister

Georgetown : The Ministry of Home Affairs disclosed that as part of the Government’s plan to continually improve border security in Guyana, a project aimed at upgrading the security features of Guyana’s Machine-Readable Passports in order to safeguard the integrity of the documents has been completed.

The Ministry says process of upgrading the passports has been completed to the satisfaction of the Ministry and issuance of the new documents will commence with effect from Monday, March 30, 2015.

It was announced at the 2014 End -of -Year address made by Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee at the Guyana Police Force Officers’ Training Centre that a contract was signed with Canadian Bank Note Company Limited (CBN) to facilitate this process.

 Minister Rohee had announced during his speech that the issuance of the new passports would commence in 2015 and the old passports would be gradually phased out.
