ft-cilia-flores-maduroTwo nephews of the wife of Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro have been arrested on cocaine charges.

Efraín Antonio Campos Flores and Francisco Flores de Freites were held after arriving on a private plane in Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince on Tuesday night.

They were flown to the United States in the company of US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agents and were expected to appear in Federal District Court in Manhattan today.

The nephews of Cilia Flores are facing charges of conspiring to smuggle 800 kilogrammes of cocaine into the United States.

According to the indictment, the two had approached a DEA informant in Honduras and discussed moving the narcotics through that country, and later met with the informant in Venezuela and provided a kilogramme of the cocaine as a sample of the drugs they intended to provide.

Agents made video and audiotapes of at least one of the encounters.
