Georgetown: Guyanese youths are being encouraged to attend the first-ever National Youth Conference in Guyana to commemorate International Youth Day locally, on August 12 at the Theatre Guild.
Organised by the Come Alive Network Inc (CANI), a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) founded by Ryan Hoppie to push youth development, the event, being held under the theme “Just Youth It”, seeks to facilitate a youth-building-youth process.
The conference, which begins at 18:00h and is expected to last until 21:00h, will feature young men and women from the length and breadth of Guyana.
CANI stated that young Guyanese are increasingly becoming real players on the international scene, from the likes of Cleveland Forde, Caricom’s Men 10k Champion, to Katherina Roshana, Miss Guyana Universe 2013. The organisation said: “Guyana continues to be well-represented internationally. It is Come Alive’s vision to inspire more Guyanese youth to become more proactive planners and participants for the long-term development of Guyana.”
The “Just Youth It” conference is a free forum that will feature motivational speeches, edutainment, and other platforms for development of young Guyanese minds in collaboration with relevant ministries and youth-oriented organisations. Although the conference is free, participants must secure tickets so that the number of attendees can be catered for. Tickets are available at California Stucco located at 96 Sheriff and Bonasika Street, Section K Campbellville., Georgetown, and August Beverages located on Norton Street, Georgetown.
Co-Director of CANI, Samuel Glasgow, stated that this event will feature many prominent individuals from around Guyana who will influence the youths for better. Some of these individuals include Roshana, Gordon Mosely, and Sara Bharrat.
CANI is a non-profit NGO, founded on April 2, 2012 for youths by youths, to actively support youth development and enable young men and women using applied global perspectives to effectively contribute to genuine and progressive community and global development. The group aims to teach young Guyanese about self-value and their genuine roles in society, as well as to promote development and capacity building among young people.
