National Toshaos Council meeting billed for September

LuncheonGeorgetown: Preparations are currently ongoing for this year’s National Toshaos Council meeting which is likely to be held in the latter half of September, Head of the Presidential Secretariat Dr Roger Luncheon said recently. He was speaking at his weekly post-Cabinet press briefing at the Office of the President in Georgetown.

He said that Cabinet made further contributions to the improvement and sustainability of hinterland village economies.

“Sustainability was continuously addressed and its main focus for the administration has been the continued access to public funding by the residents of hinterland communities to capital goods and also payment for services rendered,” he said.

Cabinet now has complemented those initiatives by deciding to allow councils of Amerindian-titled communities to tender for contracts being awarded in their areas, generally civil contracts.

Dr Luncheon said the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development would oversee and promote the enablement of these councils that would allow them to participate in the public procurement process, thereby enhancing the growth and development of village economies.
