Motorcyclist charged with causing death of Adelphi man

Berbice. The motorcyclist who was involved in the fatal accident that killed 35-year-old Sewdat Dipoo also known as “Krishna” or “Cook”, a cane harvester at the Rose Hall Estate, East Canje, Berbice, on the Adelphi Public Road last Friday, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving .

Doodnauth Hardial, 23, of Gangaram Settlement, East Canje, Berbice  appeared before Magistrate Robby Benn at the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court and was placed on $350,000 bail.

Hardial was reportedly riding his motorcycle, CG 3359, at a fast rate of speed along the East Canje public road when in the vicinity of Adelphi Village he lost control and slammed into Dipoo.

The injured man and Hardial were picked up and rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital. Dipoo was pronounced dead on arrival while Hardial was admitted.

Dipoo had just left his house and turned out of his street with his birdcage in his hand.

Hardial was reportedly racing with a 4×4 pickup at the time.

The matter has been transferred to the Reliance Magistrate’s Court and is fixed for September 26th.
