Mother of seven commits arson on Mother’s Day

houseGeorgetown: Firemen were called in after a mother of seven children set fire to her Bamboo Drive, Meadowbrook home today.

She was taken into police custody and was identified as Nicola Gomes.

Neighbours related that the woman suffered from a mental disorder after the birth of her seventh child. Her reputed husband moved the children from the house months ago because of her irrational behavior.

After neighbours saw the woman returning to the house after heavy smoke emanated from the wooden building, they thought she was returning to extinguish the flames. However, she subsequently  prevented a group of young men trying to gain access to the house to assist with extinguishing the flame.

One man said the woman tried to “fight him” after biting him twice on his right arm.Neighbour of the woman said persons in the area were aware of the woman’s mental issues, however, never expected her to set the building on fire.
