cocaine-300x208Georgetown:  Forty one-year-old Colda Towler was charged along with a male relative, 20-year-old Ian Griffith Tuesday for trying to smuggle 1.004kg of cocaine out of the country, using her 15-year-old son’s luggage.

The mother of the Guyanese born, U.S resident who was held at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport last Friday denied that she and her accomplice were attempting to smuggle drugs out of the country.

The duo from East La Penitence appeared before Magistrate Lerone Daly and were remanded until September 13 as police investigators continue their probe.

Towler’s Attorney admitted that she along with Griffith packed the suitcases which were borrowed from a friend. They denied that they were aware that cocaine was concealed in the handles of the suitcases.

The 15-year-old boy was traveling alone and was about to board an Eastern Airlines flight back to the United States when the bust took place.
