More than 1200 laptops distributed at Region four over the weekend

East Coast Demerara : Several laptop distribution exercises were held over the weekend. More than 1200 individuals benefited from the exercises held in Chateau Margot, East Coast Demerara, the Central Islamic Organisation (CIOG) in Georgetown, and the Diamond Secondary school, and the Assemblies of God Church, Grove, East Bank Demerara as par of the Government’s One Laptop per- Family (OLPF) Programme.

This series of distribution is part of the continuation process that began in May, and primarily targets Region Four-Demerara/Mahaica. This initiative is focused upon the distribution of 6,000 laptops to recipients of the East Coast, East Bank and Georgetown areas. At the Chateau Margot Primary school, 335 laptops were distributed while at the CIOG, 50 were slated to be distributed.  At the distribution held at the Assemblies of God Church, 241 persons received their devices. This hub targeted persons residing in Diamond Scheme to Craig areas. At the Diamond Secondary School, 628 laptops were given out. Beneficiaries of this programme expressed their gratitude to the Government for this initiative. One recipient Sahmael Jhandu stated that he was very happy that he received his laptop and he expressed gratitude to the government for this initiative that will benefit him and his family.   Savitri Narine, a teacher, also extended her appreciation for this initiative that will benefit her in the teaching profession. A five- day training session is also being offered to the beneficiaries.
