Moraikobai beauty Analisa Andrews crowned Miss Amerindian Heritage 2013

beautyGeorgetown: Analisa Andrews who hails from Moraikobai, the only Amerindian village in Region five was Sunday evening crowned Miss Amerindian Heritage 2013, defeating nine other contestants at the Amerindian Heritage Pageant held at the National Cultural Centre (NCC).

This event culminated the month-long Amerindian Heritage celebrations during the month of September which were held under the theme “Honouring our Culture, Advancing our future”.

The 10 young Amerindian beauties, one each from the  Administrative regions, competed for the crown in the presence of  Minister of Amerindian Affairs, Pauline Sukhai, Minister in the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, Norman Whittaker, and Permanent Secretary, Collin Croal.

The pageant conveyed a mixture of diverse cultures of  Amerindians’ way of life. The delegates highlighted the development, rich, unique and diverse cultural heritage of Guyana’s first people.

The exceptional talent segment depicted Amerindian traditions in the form of poetry, and dance, which saw the delegates strongly addressing the need for Amerindians to keep their traditions alive.

The confident 21-year old Analisa Andrews amused the judges with her spectacular cultural piece as an advocate for Amerindian culture and traditions.

The beauty  believes that young people have an  integral role in the development of their communities, hence, youth leadership in Amerindian communities was her platform.

Several prrizes were handed out including for the Most Elegant, Most Disciplined, and Miss Photogenic along with others  that the queen received.

The event also saw cultural pieces from various Amerindian groups. The next Amerindian heritage pageant will be held in 2015.
