Ministry to analyse low scores in 11 plus exams

The Ministry of Education is deterimine to find out the reason why some children score below 30 or even zero in the Barbados Secondary School's Entrance Examination (BSSEE).

Minister of Education Ronald Jones,  says there have been continuous improvement in Mathematics over the past three years but the results indicated 722 students out of 3970 taking the examination this year  had score below 30 in the subject.

"We have to find out why, because there could be many reasons which would cause these students to have servere cognitive defects.Some of them could be emotional and psychological issues, there might be be learning deficiencies such as learning or visual problems", Jones said.

The Minister said his ministry would work assiduously over the coming months to adress the problems.  He was speaking during a press conference at the Ministry.
