GEORGETOWN: The Ministry of Natural Resources has launched a Competition for youth between the ages of 15 and 25 to design a logo for the Petroleum Commission of Guyana (PCG), the new entity being created to oversee and manage the affairs of Guyana’s oil and gas sector.
The competition is open to young people from every part of the country as the Ministry continues to encourage and foster among youth an interest in Guyana’s emerging petroleum sector.
Participants must be either students or amateurs. No professionals or companies are permitted to participate. Further, no employees of the Ministry of Natural Resources or their immediate relatives are permitted to participate in the competition.
Submissions
The Logo Competition will last for three weeks. Submissions are invited from Thursday December 8, 2016 to Tuesday December 27, 2016. Persons can email entries to ministry@nre.gov.gy or bring their entries to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Natural Resources, GGMC’s compound, Upper Brickdam. The winners will be announced in January 2017.
The winning logo for the PCG will be incorporated into the logo for the Ministry of Natural Resources, which already features the logos of the Guyana Forestry Commission, the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission and the Guyana Gold Board – the agencies which are overseen by the Ministry.
Prizes
The winner of the competition will receive a Samsung Galaxy S2 tablet; while the second prize is a Samsung Galaxy S5 Edge smartphone and the third prize is a digital camera. The most ‘liked’ logo on the Ministry’s Facebook page will also receive a prize.
The entry form for the competition and the detailed competition rules and guidelines can be found on the Ministry of Natural Resources’ website at www.nre.gov.gy.
The winning entry will be selected by a panel comprised of officials and employees of the Ministry. The winner will be notified via email and telephone contact, and announced on the Ministry of Natural Resources Facebook page and website.
The PCG will be the regulatory body governing the oil and gas sector and will be brought into being by a Bill to be laid in the National Assembly before the end of 2016 and which will be passed during early 2017. This regulatory body is just one in a raft of arrangements that the Government is making to prepare for oil production in 2020.
