Minister orders probe into National Petroleum contract

San Fernando: State-owned National Petroleum has been ordered to put on hold any award of contracts for transport, pending the outcome of an investigation ordered by Energy Minister, Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan.

This follows claims by CDS Transport Company Limited through its attorney Martin George that NP exercised bias in the award of a transport contract.

George had asked the minister to launch an investigation in the interest of fairness, accountability and transparency.

CDS Transport is alleging that NP practiced bias in the award of a  $40 million contract for the lease of 20 tractor trucks to a garbage contractor in East Trinidad.

The minister confirms she has received a letter from  attorney George and has ordered an investigation into the matter.

She has since asked NP chairman, Neil Gosine to provide all reports pertaining to the award of the said contract and has directed np to put a hold on the award of any transport contract at this time.
