Minister fed up with Government’s agriculture policy

Bridgetown.

Minister of Agriculture David Estwick, has threatened to resign if the Government do not support him in his quest to transform the agriculture sector in Barbados.

Speaking at national consultation on a White Paper on Agriculture at the Savannah Hotel yesterday, Estwick said: "It is either that my administration take me seriously or I will resign, simple as that ".

A fire up Estwick told a hushed audience  the Ministry  of Agriculture has been allocated 1.5 percent of the national budget, when other countries that understood the importance of agricultural diversification and contribution to economic growth were spending six and seven percent.

Estwick said he was fed up that Government after Government had failed to make adequate provision for agriculture. He warned there would come a point of time when the talking has to stop and someone has to do what has to be done or the agriculture would remain stalled.
