Minibus slams into parked truck, traps dead driver

West Bank Demerara: A 35-year-old minibus driver was today killed instantly at around 01:30hrs after crashing into a parked truck on the Stanleytown, West Bank Demerara Public Road.

Teddy Persaud, called ‘Bow Foot’ of Good Intent, West Bank Demerara, was the lone occupant of the Route 31 minibus.

 Persaud is survived by two children. His wife died about four years ago.

According to reports, Persaud was heading south along the West Bank Demerara Public Road when he swerved to the opposite side of the road and crashed into the truck. 

He was pronounced dead on arrival at the West Demerara Regional Hospital.

It is unclear what caused the driver to veer out of his lane, though a relative speculated that he fell asleep at the wheel.

The injured Persaud was trapped in his vehicle for some time and by the time he was eventually pulled from the vehicle he was already dead.
