Mexico a friend of the Caribbean says Calderon

Bridgetown.

President of Mexcio Felipe Calderon, has given the assurance that the views of the region will be articulated at the G20 Summitt which will be chaired by Mexico in Los Cabos next month.

Speaking at the end of  CARICOM-Mexico Summit held yesterday, Calderon said Mexico was a friend of the region.

"We are friends of the CARICOM, in fact, we truly believe we are part of the Caribbean and should therefore be part of the affairs of the Caribbean. We are hoping for our relationship to continue to blossom and get stronger in the future", Calderon said.

Mexico has made several commitments to assisting the region in several areas including the trading of goods, tourism development and the sharing of education.

President of Suriname and  chairman of CARICOM Desi Bouterse,said the summit was most productive and beneficial.

"We have made commitments in specific areas of co-operation, including transporation, energy, tourism and investment and citizen security", Bouterse said.

The second Mexico-CARICOM Summit was hosted by Prime Minister of Barbados Freundel Stuart, it was attended by Prime Minister of Grenada Tillman Thomas, Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda Baldwin Spencer, Prime Minister of St Kitts Dr Denzil Douglas and Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago Kamla-Persad-Bissessar.
