Met Office discontinues flood bulletin

Port-of-Spain: The Meteorological Office has officially discontinued the flood bulltetin for Trinidad and Tobago. The Met Office issued a statement this morning saying that over the past few days Trinidad and Tobago has experienced widespread rainfall, some of which was heavy and accompanied by gusty winds.

It says that current analysis suggests that the heaviest rainfall is past but there is still going to be some lingering showers today becoming settled by midnight. As a result the Met Office says the flood bulletin is discontinued.

It says the major rainfall activity associated with the passing of an active tropical wave interacting with the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone has abated. However the Met Office says that as a result of rainfall, grounds are waterlogged and levels of water in the nation's river courses are still high.

The Met Office adds that reports reaching them indicate that flood water levels have subsided but that some low lying areas which are still being affected by flood waters can expect slow and gradual improvement.

The Met Office is asking all citizens and particularly residents in the Caroni River basin to remain vigilant and take every necessary precaution to protect life and property from any flood waters.
