Medical Association angry over leaked report

San Fernando: The Medical Professionals Association (MPATT) is describing as mischievous the fact that the report into the death of 26-year-old Chrystal Boodoo Ramsomair was leaked to the media, even as MPATT is yet to receive a copy of the report.

Ramsoomair's death on March 4th after a Ceasarian Section delivery at the San Fernando General Hospital, led to the suspension of five doctors and five nurses and the firing of the Chief Executive Officer of the South West Regional Health Authority (SWRHA). Both the SWRHA and the MInistry of Health had ordered a probe into the circumstances of the death.

In a release issued today, MPATT’s treasurer, Dr Shehenaz Mohammed said the leak could be perceived as an attempt at causing harm to the medical profession.

MPATT is also taking issue with at least one of the recommendations of the panel which suggests that all heads of departments of service units must ensure the implementation of protocols issued by the Ministry of Health and the SWRHA saying this is contrary to the advice given by the Attorney General Anand Ramlogan to chairmen of the Regional Health Authorities.

Health Minister Therese Baptiste Cornelis has not yet made any statement on the findings of the investigation into the death.
