Marriott Hotel project moving ahead-Finance Minister

marriot-300x200Georgetown: Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh is assuring Guyanese that the Marriott Hotel project will be completed and ready to be opened by next year’s deadline. He said the hotel, which is expected to have 197 rooms, is taking shape.

Dr. Singh sought to clear the air that financial investors may have withdrawn from the Marriott Hotel project saying such claims are untrue and the financial aspect of the deal will be tied up soon.

The Marriot project has come in for criticism from opposition parties as well as some commentators. The Parliamentary opposition even voted against any budgetary allocations for the project advancing several reasons from viability of the project to transparency about the financing and other aspects.

The administration plans to pump some 21 Million US dollars into the project, which is being undertaken by Atlantic Hotels Inc a company set up by NICIL to manage the Marriott.

It has been over three years now that the government has been pushing the project and with construction under-way, there appears to be no turning back.
