Manning to sue Parliament

San Fernando: Suspended San Fernando East Member of Parliament, Patrick Manning is challenging a ruling by the highest court of the land, the Parliament in the legal courts saying his suspension is illegal and that he must get redress.

Manning addressed a public meeting in San Fernando hours after completing his protest walk from Port-of-Spain.

He qestioned the process used to suspend him as he noted that the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Wade Mark, was also head of the Parliament's Privileges Committee.

The San Fernando East MP was suspended from Parliament for statements made which suggested that criminals were funding the construction of the prime minister’s private residence to the tune of $150 million.

Spurred on by his supporters, the former prime minister then questioned why there was no assessment of the construction being undertaken by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar as he accused the media of outright favoritism.

The legal matters against parliament are expected to be filed by tomorrow.
