Man remanded for Mash Day killing

murderGeorgetown: Devon Thomas, age 21, of 95 Better Hope South, East Coast Demerara, was remanded today to prison for the murder of 25-year-old Kumar Mohabir and the attempted murder of his brother, Narendra Mohabir.

Thomas who was identified during an identification parade was unrepresented in Court.

The matter was prosecuted by Police Sergeant Alexis Hosanna. Thomas is to return to Court Two on March 14.

On February 23, 2013 (Mashramani Day) Kumar Mohabir of Lot 7 Enterprise, East Coast Demerara (ECD), was stabbed several times about the body in the vicinity of Vlissengen Road and Thomas Lands. He succumbed at around the following day at the Woodlands Hospital.

His brother, 30-year-old Narendra Mohabir, also sustained multiple stab wounds, allegedly when he threw himself on his mortally wounded sibling to stop the brutal attack. He was treated at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation but was not admitted.
