Man charged with granddaughter murder

The police have arrested Whitield Nurse for the murder of his grand-daughter Rashida Bascome who when missing 11 years ago.

At the time of her disapearance Rashida 11, was a student of the Parkinson School was staying with her grandparents at 1st Avenue, Accommodation Road, Bush Hall, St Michael.

Nurse, 68 was arrested over the weekend after new information gleaned by a joint investigative team led by Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Mark Thompson which included detectives from the Cold Case Squad, The Truth Verification Unit, the Major Incident and Crime Analysis Unit and the Major Crime Unit.

The eldery man appeared in the  District “A” Magistrates’ Court today, he was not required to plead to murdering his granddaughter sometime between January 2 and April 1,2003.

He was also charged with having unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl between January 1, 1987 and December 31 that year and with another girl between January 1, 1999 and December 31, 2000.

Nurse was remanded to HMP Dodds until July 1.
