Man beaten, impaled in head

Antigua: A man beaten on the head with a piece of wood containing protruding nails is in serious but stable condition at Mount St John’s Medical Centre – despite suffering puncture wounds that reportedly reached his brain.

Reports indicate 31-year-old Euton Cameron was on the job at School Zone Supplies store at about 3:30 pm Monday, when his female co-worker’s fiancé confronted him about an accident at the workplace earlier that day.

The man reportedly wanted Cameron to explain how his partner sustained a broken toe while at the High Street store.

“He came up quarrelling because his girlfriend is sickly and any injury to her is very, very serious. Apparently an iron rod fell on her toe and broke it and it was Cameron who had put it there while everything was being packed up for moving. She was injured in an accident,” a source reported.

The source said Cameron and his colleague’s fiancé argued for a short time and when he (Cameron) turned away, he was struck on the head with the wood.

“He (Cameron) walked away from the store and went to an aunt’s place to get help to take the nail out of his head. The wood was still hanging on the nail so she couldn’t remove it. The ambulance went for him and took him to the hospital,” the source said.

Police said the injured Tanner Street resident underwent surgery to remove the nail from his skull Monday and reports indicate he has to have another one today to repair the damage caused.
