MacFarlane is Band of the Year record fifth time

Port-of-Spain: Brian MacFarlane has won the Band of the Year title for a record fifth time in Trinidad and Tobago Carnival celebrations. The results were announced a short while ago by the National Carnival Commission.

Trini Revellers placed second with their portrayal of Tales of Merry Ole England and Legacy was third with it's portrayal of South Pacific.

MacFarlane portrayed Humanity – Circle of Life this year, to become the first mas maker to win the title for a fifth consecutive time. Before this year's compeition he was tied with retired mas maker Wayne Bearkley, who won the compeition four times in a row.

MacFarlane crossed the big stage at the Queen's Park Savannah in Port-of-Spain at 9 pm Tuesday complaining that the congestion of masqueraders from other bands had delayed him. He says he is seriously considering bypassing the Savannah stage, considered the premiere of the five judging in the city, during his 2012 presentation.

He had earlier said he is also considering bowing out of competitions if he won the title this year.

MacFarlane's previous winnings were in 2007 with the presentation India, 2008 with Earth, 2009 with Africa and 2010 with Resurrection The Mas.
