Local police alert foreign authorities at the borders as manhunt for escaped prisoners continue.

Georgetown: The police are leaving no stones unturned in finding the escaped prisoners as they intensified their operation with the use of the army chopper. The search is stretching around the Berbice and Canje rivers as well as the Black Bush Polder areas. So far there has been no traces of them and no eyewitness reports of whether they have been spotted. It is as if the criminals just dissappeared into thin air  according to a senior officer quoted in reports today.The relatives of the men were warned about harbouring them and a number of homes were searched. The authorities in Suriname have been alerted to be on the lookout for the criminals. Mug shots of the men were sent to the Surinamese police.

Kevin Narine called “Long Hair”, 32 years of No. 7 Village, WCB, who was serving a sentence of 9 years for robbery under arms.Vijay Seenarine, 33 years of Little India, Skeldon, Corentyne, who was remanded to prison on a charge of Carnal Knowledge.
Rickford La Fleur known as Rickford Williams, 35 years of Circle Street, Skeldon, and Vryheid’s Lust Squatting Area, ECD, who was remanded to prison on two charges of murder and two charges of trafficking in narcotics.
Vinood Gopual, 19 years of 34 Yakasari, Black Bush Polder, Berbice, who was remanded to prison on a charge of murder.

The men escaped out of the New Amsterdam prison in the wee hours of Saturday morning.The security of the prison has since come under criticism and an inquiry has been setup to investigate the prison break.
