Light out at Kensington Oval

Bridgetown

The light at the historic Kensington Oval were disconnected for a short time  yesterday due to an unpaid bill.

Chief executive officer of Kensington Oval Management Inc (KOMI), Ben Toppin, neither denied nor confirmed that the power of the world famous ground was disconnected.

“We had an issue this morning, it is a non-issue now”, Toppin said.

KOMI is the entity that manages the 12.5 acre multi-purpose facility, which is also a venue for national events and major entertainment shows.

Reports are that the Barbados Light & Power turned up and disconnected the power from outside the property after the bill remained unpaid for a number of months. Sources said that the average monthly bill of the Oval is about $60 000.

Kensington Oval is currently hosting a Tri-Nation Twenty20 Series between the West Indies, England and New Zealand women cricket teams.

, had its electricity disconnected for a short time before management scrambled to take care of a reported $400 000 utility bill and avoid international embarrassment. Kensington is the venue for the series that is being played between West Indies, New Zealand and England women’s teams.
