LIAT plane develops problems in the air

Bridgetown.

Officials at the troubled regional airline, LIAT, has denied media reports that smoke was seen coming from one of its aircraft after it t had developed a pressurization problem while on a flight from Dominica to Barbados on Tuesday night.

LIAT, which earlier this week confirmed that one of its aircraft had experienced a “main wheel failure during takeoff,” said that the Tuesday flight with 18 passengers on board landed safely at the Grantley Adams International Airport.

“The Barbados Airport Authorities, in keeping with their procedures, had their emergency equipment on alert in spite of the fact that the operating captain indicated that it was not an emergency situation and no assistance was required.

“The aircraft landed without any further incident. There was no smoke in the cabin as suggested in the media, however, after landing, when the air-conditioning system was activated in the normal manner, there was a vaporised mist from the air vents which is customary", LAIT said in a statement issued last night.

According to the statement, there were no reports of difficulty in breathing by the passengers during the flight and that the plane, which it did not identify, had returned to service following investigation and analysis by the maintenance and engineering department.
