Leave the Social Partnership alone says Sir Roy

Bridgetown.

A leading trade unionist has recjected the notion that the Social Partnership should be discontinued.

General Secretary of the Barbados Workers Union (BWU), Sir Roy Trotman says the dialogue at the level of the Social Partnership is important and should be allowed to continue when it comes up for renewal later this year.

He credited the Social Partnership with the level of stability that Barbados has been able to enjoy, particularly in recent times.

"I reject the notion that the Social Partnership  should be discontinued as totally unrealistic, because on all sides it is recognised that were it not for the dialogue between labour, employers and the Government, the level of comfort that we are enjoying in this crisis would have never taken place and I hope that you are aware of this", Sir Roy told those attending a seminar being held as part of activities for the 2013 Week of Execellence, at Solidary House.

"Regrettably, someone suggested the Soical Partnership should be changed in such a way that moves it away from the model that it was intented to. I have to ask why did we establish tripartite social dialogue", he added.

Sir Roy explained that while some people would like to see the Social Partnership s an extension of the various Ministries of the Government. It was created to be an extension of the principles governing the world of work, to ensure that they are able to create better levels of production, improved levels of efficiency and high qualities of productivity that will eventually satisfy the overall  aim of Barbados to build a stronger, firmer, more reliable and sustainable framework that would be of benefit to the entire country.rt
