LAIT suspends flights to St Lucia

Castries, St Lucia.

The regional airline LIAT has suspended flights into St Lucia due to the absence of fire service personnel at the George F. Charles Airport, on the outskirts of the captial Castries.

Public Servants in St Lucia are taking industrial action to force the Government to increase their salaries and wages.

Last week in a address to the nation, Prime Minister Dr Kenny Anthony said the country could only afford a four percent wage hike for the 2010-2012 triennnium while the Trade Union Federation (TUF) is sticking to its demands for a  9.5 percent increase or  six percent  with stipulated conditions.

On Monday, the St Lucia Chamber of Commerce, Industry of Agriculture called for an end to the industrial action that has crippled the Public Service for a second consecutive week.
