Kwame-Georgetown: Controversial press officer that operated under Former President Donald Ramotar and Bharrat Jagdeo Kwame McCoy was charged along with two others for common assault on popular columnist Freddie Kissoon back in 2010.

McCoy of 40 of 336 Section ‘A’ Great Diamond, East Bank Demerara, Former Office of the President Staffer Jason Abdulla 24 of 56 James and Barr Street Albouystown Georgetown and Former Death Squad member Sean Hinds 51 of 2548 North Ruimvedlt were granted $100.000 bail each and are to reappear in court on March 11, 2016.

The court heard that the on 24 May, 2010 the three unlawfully assaulted Freddie Kissoon at the corners of Robb and Light Street. Kwame McCoy was named as the No.1 accused, Jason Abdulla the No.2 accused and Sean Hinds the No.3 accused. The court heard that McCoy is a communications specialist, Abdulla a Clerk and Hinds a businessman.

McCoy and Abdulla had appearances put in for them by Latchmi Rahamat and Glenn Hanoman respectively.

Meanwhile in his bail application, Glenn Hanoman pointed to the court that judging from the support that was shown at the court on Monday morning for the virtual complainant a decision has been arrived at by himself and the lawyer for the No.1 accused that they would prefer the matter be tried the upper court by a judge and jury.

Reference was also made to the many writing by the virtual complainant on the matter even as the lawyer asked the magistrate if she felt that she would be able to judicate the matter in a fair manner and if she though that it was wise for her to try the matter.

In her response magistrate Judy Latchman explained that she is a very fair magistrate and that her court is also a fair court. She however reminded the lawyer that it was everyone’s right to think that they can adjudicate but at the end of the day it remains her job to do so. The lawyers called for a PI into the matter.

However, there was no legal appearance for Hinds. The prosecution did not object to bail for the trio but requested to the court that it be done with some condition. Those conditions were that the accused stay away from the virtual complainant, lodge whatever travel documents they have with the police and report to the police every Monday at the Criminal Investigation Department every Monday morning 0900hrs.

On March 11, 2016 the trio would be informed of if the matter would continue before the lower court or it would be sent to the high court to be tried by a judge and jury as requested by the lawyers.
