Justice Winston Moore sworn in as Ombudsman

OmbudsmanGeorgetown: Justice Winston Moore was today sworn in as Ombudsman by President Donald Ramotar. In 2005 Justice Sheik Mohamed had retired as Ombudsman.

Moore said he will be discussing staffing and resources with Government Officials. He further noted that several persons who had worked at the office in the past have opted to return. “I have no qualms or misgivings as to staffing and resources.”

The President said he hopes that Guyanese will make full use of the Office of the Ombudsman.

An ombudsman or public advocate is usually appointed by the government or by parliament, but with a significant degree of independence, who is charged with representing the interests of the public by investigating and addressing complaints of maladministration or violation of rights.
