Justice should be delivered in a timely manner-President

President Donald RamotarGeorgetown: President Donald Ramotar has lamented that justice should be delivered in a timely manner and “too many of our people are languishing in jail for too long awaiting trial.” He noted that the government has done its part by appointing more judges and magistrates into the system.

The Head of State made the observation while outlining the need for the police and the judiciary to work hand in hand.

This was disclosed when the Guyana Police Force held the Police Officers’ Annual Conference under the theme “Advancing institutional modernization to secure our communities through enhanced professionalism, partnership, strategic management and effective leadership”.

Underscoring that the government embarked on a programme to revamp the entire judicial system, the President said his administration will place legislation to also eliminate the lengthy Preliminary Inquiries.
