Janiel Howard called ‘JP’ wanted in KN grenade attack

Janiel Howard called ‘JP’Georgetown: Police announced Janiel Howard called ‘JP’ is wanted by the police for questioning in relation to  ‘attempting to cause explosion’ which occurred on June 06, 2016, at Saffon Street, Charlestown, Georgetown. The other wanted man is man Shemar Wilson, called ‘Abdue’, is yet to be apprehended for questioning in relation to the lobbing of a live grenade outside the offices of the Kaieteur News at Saffon Street, Charlestown on June 4, at about 22:00 hrs.The device, which did not explode, was thrown at the vehicle of Kaieteur News publisher Glenn Lall, which was parked outside the premises of the news publication. Police believe the 20-year-old is a key player in the attack.
Wilson is said to be from Lot 43 North Sophia, Georgetown and Lot 51 West La Penitence, Georgetown. This newspaper understands that Wilson’s mother has since moved out of her Sophia home.
Police apprehend another suspect on Saturday night as multiple persons remain in custody. Initially, 12 persons were in custody, including the 19-year-old driver of Toyota Spacio PSS 5252 which police found abandoned near Norton Street and Mandela Avenue shortly after the grenade was thrown at Lall’s vehicle. The car is impounded at the East La Penitence Police Station.

The vehicle reportedly belongs to a Kitty businesswoman, who had rented it to the young driver.
Shemar Wilson called ‘Abdue’Shortly after the grenade attack, the 19-year-old driver gave conflicting reports to ranks at the Alberttown Police Station, but several persons were subsequently arrested for questioning. However, based on investigations, Wilson appears to have the answers police are seeking.

This investigation is being spearheaded by ‘A’ Division Commander Clifton Hicken, and involves ranks from the Major Crimes Unit. Hicken has said he would do whatever it takes and will go as far as it takes to solve this case.

When the device was tossed at the publisher’s vehicle, a security staffer heard an unusual sound near the Lexus SUV, which was parked on the western side of Saffon Street. Upon checking, the staffer spotted the grenade lying near the right front wheel.

Staffers were at the time participating in a wake for Assistant Editor Dale Andrews, who had passed away earlier the same day.

Video footage from a Kaieteur News CCTV camera showed the grey vehicle heading north, but slowing as it approached Lall’s vehicle. The vehicle then accelerated after the device was thrown.
