Jamaican jailed for possession of cannabis

Another Jamaican was jailed for attempting to smuggle marijunana into Barbados when he appeared in the District "B" Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Leon Smart who swallowed 80 packages of marijuana and brought them to Barbados in his stomach, pleaded guility to possession of two pounds of cannabis, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation.

Smart was given two years on each of those counts, with the exception of possession, for which he was convicted, reprimanded and discharged.

He arrived  at Grantley Adams International Airport  7:25 p.m. on Sunday, March 17, and after clearing immigration and being questioned by the Police Drug Squad, was referred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he passed out the drugs.

Smart is the seventh Jamaican to be jailed for trying to import drugs into this year.
