Jamaican arrested at Piarco airport with $26,000 in marijuana

Piarco: A 36-year-old Jamaican man has been arrested as Customs officials this morning discovered over a kilogramme of marijuana in his luggage at the Piarco International Airport after disembarking a flight from Jamaica.

A statement from the Customs and Excise Division says that Customs officers were conducting special operations on the arrival of a flight from Jamaica when they had cause to target a particular passenger for a detailed check.

The statement says that upon examination, they discovered 16 packets of the illegal drug among his baggage.

The pellets are said to have weighed 1,183 grammes with a street value of $26,000.

The man was taken to the Arima Police Station and is to appear in court on Monday to answer the charge.
