Jack Warner resigns

abc Port of Spain; Minister of National Security Jack Warner has resigned from the People's Partnership Government. This was announced last night by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar as she spoke to members of the press. She also announced that Minister Emmanuel George who was responsible for the Ministry of Works will now replace Mr Warner as Minister of National Security, and Dr. Suruj Rambachan will fill the position of Minister of Works.

The PM held an emergency Cabinet meeting on the heels of several allegations by Concacaf of fraud by Minister Warner when she said "I have today accepted the offer of resignation of the Minister of National Security Mr Jack Warner from the Cabinet of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. I wish to thank Mr. Warner for his service to the Government and people of Trinidad and Tobago. I have advised his Excellency President Anthony Carmona to revoke the appointment of Mr. Warner and appoint Mr Emmanuel George as Minister of National Security. I have also advised His Excellency President Anthony Carmona to assign the portfolio of Works and Infrastructure to the Honorable Suruj Rambachan in addition to his existing portfolio".

Several Government Ministers were seen leaving the Prime Minister's residence but they refused to comment on the situation. The usually very upbeat and outspoken Warner also refused to comment. Today however it is being reported that Mr Warner have also resigned as the Chairman of the party as well. Efforts to speak or contact Mr.Warner so far is unsuccessful.
