International Children’s Outreach supplies groceries to children’s aid centre

ICO hands overGeorgetown: It was Senior US Senator Barbara Mikulski who rightly said, "Each one of us can make a difference. Together we make change." Every child properly fed with equal access to a sound education is the change that the International Children's Outreach (ICO) wants to see. Recognizing the aforementioned quote to be true, ICO has lent support to the Ruimveldt Children's Aid Centre (RCAC), by providing a them with two-months’ worth of groceries.
During her first visit to the Ruimveldt Children’s Aid Centre last June, ICO’s Executive director, Onica Charles, was inspired by the educational and empowering programmes being carried out by the RCAC. When Ms. Charles was informed of vibrant summer programme of the RCAC she immediately pledged to sponsor the food supplies for the July-August programme.
Recently, ICO held true to its commitment when the Vice President of ICO’s local chapter, Romario Saintjohn, presented the Program Coordinator of the Ruimveldt Children’s Aid Centre, Samantha Austin, with the first of the two-month supply of hampers to aid in their summer feeding programme.
The hamper consisted of food items such as rice, macaroni, curry powder, cheese, potatoes, sausages, onion, garlic and black-eye peas among other ingredients which will be used to prepare nutritious meals for the children of the RCAC.
This aid for the RCAC, comes just as ICO continues work on its very own Children's Aid Centre in Craig on the East Bank of Demerara. This centre will boast an enrichment and wellness area, computer lab, library, study room, music lab, playground, and kitchen – from which hot meals will be served to the neighbourhood children daily. All the services provided will be free of cost.
ICO’s local chapter, called ICO-Guyana, is run by a Board of Directors comprising nine persons – President, Onica Charles; Vice President, Romario Saintjohn; Secretary, Rehana Ahamad; along with Juliana Peters, Maxine Perry, Candacy Charles, Sonia McLean, Adrienne Harmon and Ian Shamsudeen.
Persons who would like to volunteer and/or make a donation to any of ICO’s programmes can do so by visiting www.icocharity.org.
