Instructions to arrest police officer now

Gaspard Port of Spain; The residence of Sea Lots in Port of Spain felt a sense of relief as the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Roger Gaspard, instructed that the off duty officer involved in the fatal accident which took the life of a mother and her two young daughters be charged.

On February 24, Haydee Paul and her two daughters Akasha and Shakira died in an accident along the Beetham Highway in Sea Lots. Arising out of this incident a police officer is being charged with three counts of causing death by dangerous driving. Three other people were also involved in the accident when the accused vehicle mounted the sidewalk and knocked down all six people, killing Paul and her two daughters.

Paul's mother said she is feeling better now that she heard the news, she said it's a sign from God who has heard her prayers, and she know that there is nothing she can do or say that will bring back her daughter or grandchildren, but she is glad that he is being charged. The residents and family from the Sea Lots area felt there would have been a cover up due to the length of time they took to deal with the situation.

Since the accident the police have come under heavy criticism for the long period it took to complete the investigations. Several people in high office kept questioning why there was such a  lengthy delay. But officers involved in investigating the case visited the DPP office and after an extensive perusal of the case was able to complete certain tasks set by Mr. Gaspard.

Thus far no instructions have been given with respect to the injuries suffered by the other three victims until further investigations are carried out. Speaking after the meeting DPP Gaspard confirmed that he gave the order for the officer to be arrested.
