Increase in water rates

Kingston.

NATIONAL WATER Commission (NWC) customers are to see at least a two per cent increase on their bills starting immediately.

According to the NWC, since April 1, it started charging its customers more based on a new K-Factor which is the money added to bills to finance capital projects to reduce non-revenue water.

The NWC said. the increase is not related to the new tariff application which it has submitted to the Office of Utilities Regulation and which could see Jamaicans paying even more for water.

"The changes are required by the terms of the 2008 Tariff Regime and will result in a two per cent increase in the average customer bills, plus any changes brought on by movements in the Price Adjustment Mechanism for the previous month," said the NWC.
