Increase in murders, armed robberies cited in Police statistics report

Georgetown: There has been an increase in the murder rates, while executions style killings climbed, according to Guyana Police Force crime statistics for the year.

Police stats further stated that a total of 113 murders were recorded at the end of October, 2011 in comparison to 114 murders for the similar period this year; a 1% increase. Of the 114 murders, 50 were of the disorderly type, 7 were committed during armed robberies, 23 domestic related and 9 execution type, while the other 25 are so far undetermined.

Armed robberies escalated as the police statistics noted that there were 276 robberies in October 2011 compared to 342 in 2012, an increase of 24%.

Statistic also noted that speeding continues to be a major contributing factor to fatal accidents, causing 63 of the 83 fatal accidents at the end of October this year.
